\’As a man Thinketh\’ is the third book of James Allen serving as a source of inspiration. The title inspired from the biblical verse \”As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he\”. It\’s the book that will
help you to help yourself, although it is less than hundred page, it is worth the few minutes to decode the whole way of one\’s thoughts in various way impacting our lives.

It starts with how thought and character are interlink. As a man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts. The effect of thought on circumstances tell us
how a man is a master garden of his soul.Men who have extensively practised self-control and self purification will noticed the alternation in his circumstances in exact ratio with his altered mental condition. A pure minded man does not fall suddenly into crime by stress of mere external force; Criminal thought had been secretly fostered for long in the heart and to the hour of opportunity , he reveals it\’s gathered power.

It also describes how the man who does not shrink from self crucifixion can never fail to accomplish the object of one who in his heart is set by giving the examples of how men are anxious to improve their circumstances but are unwilling to improve themselves. It also teaches us how condition of happiness vary so vastly with individuals that a men\’s entire soul condition cannot judged by another from the external aspect alone.

Relation of health and thought were distinct on thought of malice, envy, disappointment. Despondency robs the body of its health and grace. To live continually in thoughts of ill will, cynicism, suspicion and envy is to confine in a self made prison hole. Man who align his thoughts fearlessly with his central purpose of life has become the conscious and intelligent wielder of his mental power.

Writer let us understand the \”Thought factor in Achievement\” by contradicting two statement-
\’Many men are slaves because one is an oppressor; let us hate the oppressor\’ with \’One man is an oppressor because many are slaves; let us despise the slaves.\’ This make us conscious one is limited only by the thoughts which he chooses. Also the book exclaimed \”There is no such thing as Luck\”. One cannot see the trials and failures, struggles, sacrifices, undaunted efforts; they only see the light and joy and call it \’luck\’. It is all one\’s efforts and results that they enthrone in their heart, building it and becoming it.

Last part of the book shows us how Serenity influences one\’s mind , helps to lead a serene life – a life that dwells in the ocean of Truth, beneath the waves, beyond the reach of tempests, in the Eternal Calm!

This one is a must read to make ourselves calm in every situation of life. If you are seeking for spirituality within yourself, you may read this book. [Books from Ukiyo Bookstore,Imphal.]
